About The Position

The Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) is seeking a Departmental Analyst to serve as a recognized resource for offender-related IT security, software, and hardware compliance across all systems supporting MSI, Education, and Offender Success. The position is responsible for manual security processes such as third-party security reviews, assurance report verification, portable media and external drive tracking, internet access oversight, and data security incident response. Additional responsibilities include conducting research and analysis to identify trends and irregularities within agency program structures, developing program plans and reports, analyzing data, and performing a range of assignments that ensure the integrity of security and privacy compliance with laws, regulations, approved MDOC internal controls, and State of Michigan IT Technical and Privacy Standards. For the 9-P11 level, this position coordinates offender-related IT security, software, and hardware compliance and supports data and IT incident response activities. It applies established security and privacy procedures, tracks compliance, oversees manual security processes, and manages routine audit and remediation tasks. The position also serves as the department’s Data Security Incident Response Coordinator and acts as the backup MDOC ASAM coordinator.

Requirements

  • Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major.
  • Departmental Analyst 9: No specific type or amount of experience required.
  • Departmental Analyst 10: One year of professional experience.
  • Departmental Analyst P11: Two years of professional experience, including one year of experience equivalent to the intermediate (10) level in state service.
  • Departmental Analyst 12: Three years of professional experience, including one year of experience equivalent to the experienced (P11) level in state service.
  • Departmental Analyst 12 Alternate: Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school and the equivalent of at least two years of full-time active-duty experience at or above the E-6 level in the uniformed services may be substituted for the education requirement.
  • Must report in person for the first two weeks for training.
  • Must meet ethical standards of state government employment.
  • Must report any possible conflict of interest.
  • Certain positions may require a criminal history background check.
  • Applicants who have been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony are ineligible for employment with the Department of Corrections until satisfactory completion of any sentence imposed, including parole or probation.
