About The Position

This position is a two-year limited-term appointment that provides the full benefits offered to State of Michigan employees. Based on future business needs, this position may be extended or made permanent, but that is never guaranteed. The Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) is seeking an individual to work in public service as an analyst in the Office of Appeals and Market Regulation. The right candidate will serve as an analyst responsible for handling complex grievances involving requests under the Patients’ Right to Independent Review Act (PRIRA). This position is responsible for all aspects of requests from insured customers for an external review by the Director of DIFS or their designee regarding adverse determinations (denial, termination, or reduction of benefits) made by their health plans. The individual in this role will assess each case, determine eligibility, and draft a detailed written recommendation to the Director based on the information provided and applicable law.

Requirements

  • Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major.
  • Departmental Analyst 9: No specific type or amount is required.
  • Departmental Analyst 10: One year of professional experience.
  • Departmental Analyst P11: Two years of professional experience, including one year of experience equivalent to the intermediate (10) level in state service.
  • Alternate Education and Experience Departmental Analyst 9 - 12: Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school and the equivalent of at least two years of full-time active-duty experience at or above the E-6 level in the uniformed services may be substituted for the education requirement.
