Requirements

Associate’s degree from an accredited dental hygiene program.
Valid Connecticut license to practice as a Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH).

Responsibilities

Perform dental hygiene services and procedures, including dental prophylaxis, scaling and root planing, and the application of fluoride and sealants.
Screen for oral cancer and assess gum health, using visual examination and probes to identify periodontal disease and evaluate recession.
Select materials and equipment for dental hygiene visits based on patients’ oral health.
Educate patients on oral hygiene, plaque control, and postoperative care.
Document dental hygiene services, vital signs, medical and dental histories, and charting in patient records.
Prepare treatment rooms and ensure instruments and equipment are sterile.
Break down treatment rooms and promptly return instruments for sterilization.
Take X-rays as necessary and as recommended by the ADA.
