About The Position
The Dental Hygienist works in the Dental Services Unit at Montana State Prison in Deer Lodge, Montana, providing oral-health care to incarcerated patients. The role supports patient wellness and preventive care by preparing patients for treatment, assisting with clinical procedures, assessing oral health, and educating patients on maintaining long-term oral health.
Requirements
- State of Montana Dental Hygienist License.
- Two years of dental hygiene experience.
- Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered case by case.
Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for dental examinations and treatment.
- Sterilize and disinfect dental instruments, set up trays, and prepare dental materials.
- Obtain and record complete medical and dental histories.
- Assist the dentist during procedures and support the management of dental or medical emergencies.
- Complete diagnostic dental X-rays.
- Provide periodontal care, including prophylaxis, root planing, and curettage.
- Remove deposits and stains from teeth and examine gums for signs of disease.
- Apply fluoride and other preventive treatments.
- Provide oral-hygiene instruction and patient education.
- Ensure proper sterilization of medical and surgical dental equipment.
