About The Position

Under general supervision, the Deli Associate performs a variety of duties related to the deli department and assists in fulfilling customer orders at the deli counter with professional and efficient service. Westborn Market is a third-generation, family-owned and operated business with four locations across Metro Detroit. The company values quality goods, superior service, and team member relationships.

The role includes operating deli and cheese slicers; preparing, packaging, and pricing products; serving customers; stocking and rotating merchandise; keeping the work area clean and organized; and helping the meat and seafood departments as needed. The employee may also sample products at the department manager’s direction and perform other related duties as assigned.

Work includes considerable exposure to unusual conditions such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and loud noises. It involves moderate physical activity, including handling objects weighing up to 25 pounds and standing or walking for more than four hours per day. Some exposure to hazards or physical risks requires following basic safety precautions. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.

Requirements

• Demonstrate proper phone etiquette while taking orders and messages.
• Write legibly and read with comprehension at a level applicable to the position.
• Handle average-weight objects up to 25 pounds and stand and/or walk for more than four hours per day.
• Follow basic safety precautions when working in an environment with some exposure to hazards or physical risks.

Responsibilities

• Operate a deli/cheese slicer.
• Prepare, package, and price products as directed.
• Assist customers with orders placed at the deli counter.
• Stock and rotate merchandise as directed.
• Maintain current knowledge of products.
• Provide assistance to the meat and seafood departments as needed.
• Provide excellent customer service.
• Follow Westborn Market’s time and attendance policy.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area free of hazards.
• Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
• Sample products at the direction of the department manager.
• Use proper phone etiquette when taking orders and messages.
