About The Position

The Deland Fellowship in Health Care and Society at Brigham and Women's Hospital prepares professionals to be leaders in healthcare institutions. This one-year fellowship focuses on developing fundamental skills for leading academic and community-based medical centers. The program is based at Brigham and Women's Hospital, a major teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School, and Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital, and is enhanced by membership in the Mass General Brigham System. Fellows engage in project-based learning under senior management, bridging medicine and administrative management. Fellows pursuing administrative roles gain understanding of clinical aspects, while clinician fellows explore management, operations, and finance. Opportunities include participating in senior leadership meetings, special projects, gaining experience in management, finance, operations, marketing, and community relations, exposure to clinical work, and experience within an integrated health care system.

Requirements

  • An advanced degree from a U.S. accredited institution is required for consideration.
  • Fellows must display self-motivation, critical thinking, and leadership and take initiative to address complex challenges at all levels of the organization.
  • 2 years of relevant professional work experience is required.
  • Valid work authorization for employment in the United States (the Deland Fellowship does not sponsor visas).

Nice To Haves

  • 3 years of relevant professional work experience in a healthcare or business environment is strongly preferred.
  • Candidates come from a variety of careers and educational backgrounds, including medicine, business, law, public policy, and public health.

Responsibilities

  • Participation in meetings of senior leaders and assignments to special projects under their guidance.
  • Experience in management, finance, operations, marketing and community relations.
  • Hands-on exposure to clinical work, including physician and nursing rounds, observing clinical procedures and quality rounds.
  • Experience working within an integrated health care system of academic and community-based hospitals.
