Act in lieu of the regular classroom teacher and perform the duties as assigned by the Principal/Supervisor. This role requires completing the duties and tasks of the absent teacher, preventing students from leaving the room unless absolutely necessary, and checking the class roll at the designated time and manner. The substitute teacher must contact the school nurse if a student needs medical attention and notify the school office of any serious problems experienced during the day prior to leaving the campus. They will assume the same responsibilities as a regular classroom teacher for students, equipment, and other assigned materials, and follow the lesson plans provided by the teacher as closely as practical while maintaining the regular routine of the class. A summary of work covered in each class and other pertinent information should be left for the regular teacher. The role involves managing classroom behavior to maintain an environment conducive to good learning and notifying an administrator if additional assistance is needed. Substitutes must abide by the Substitute Teacher handbook, be flexible to cover different assignments if needed, and adhere to all safety procedures and guidelines. They are expected to report on time, report for any assigned duty, and work through the end of stated sub hours.
