About The Position

SPEECHCOM, INC is looking for a credentialed Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher to temporarily serve the Newport-Mesa Unified School District. This role is an excellent opportunity for a DHH Teacher to build meaningful experience supporting students. We are seeking a credentialed Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher who is committed to student success, values collaboration, and thrives in a supportive environment.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in related field (i.e. education, special education, deaf studies, linguistics, psychology, communication disorders, or child development)
  • Education Specialist Credential: Deaf and Hard of Hearing
  • Proficiency in communication methods used by students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with students, teachers, and families.
  • Must possess sufficient technology skills to complete IEP documentation and communicate effectively via email.
  • Skill in communicating verbally and in writing with students, faculty members, and parents so that all parties understand the program and the degree of progress being made.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
  • Current California Education Specialist Credential with a Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) authorization.

Responsibilities

  • Teach language, literacy, math, and academic subjects.
  • Develop listening, spoken language, or ASL skills depending on each student’s communication mode.
  • Adapt curriculum to ensure students can access classroom instruction.
  • Teach self-advocacy and communication skills.
  • Conduct educational assessments.
  • Write IEP goals related to hearing loss and language development.
  • Participate in IEP meetings.
  • Monitor student progress and document services.
  • Collaborate with other service providers to ensure effective discharge planning and continuity of care.
  • Educate parents and families on treatment goals.
  • Document student progress and adjust care plans as necessary to meet evolving needs.
