This position provides support for the planning and implementation of the summer camping program in consultation with the Corps Officer(s). Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year experience working in a summer camping program setting (ex: Cabin Leader, Program Senior Staff).
  • Respect and understanding of The Salvation Army - its mission, culture, and values.
  • Work within the total camp program and cooperate with other staff members.
  • Flexible and have a good disposition.
  • Able to maintain a responsible level of maturity and leadership.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
  • Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
  • Develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant post-secondary coursework or education, adequate training and/or relevant experience is preferred (ex: Education program completion or degree, Outdoor Survival Skills, Theological Studies, Administration, Program Coordination).
  • Alternative combination of education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Report all equipment maintenance requirements to the Corps Officer(s).
  • Ensure that recommendations for needed supplies are directed to the Corps Officer(s) in a prompt manner.
  • Assist Corps Officer(s) with staff schedules (i.e., break rotations, options facilitation, etc.).
  • Assist in the planning and facilitation of programs in conjunction with other Senior Program Staff.
  • Be a resource in providing support for activities to do with campers during inside times and on rainy days.
  • Be familiar with all camp equipment, how to care for it and operational requirements.
  • Fill in as program replacement lead as required.
  • Broaden the interests of the campers and be innovative in offering recreation activities.
  • Ensure that inventory of the equipment is taken at the beginning of camp season and on an ongoing basis throughout the summer camping season.
  • Inventory, label and store all activity equipment and supplies.
  • Assist with staff training in conjunction with Corps Officer(s) and Divisional Children & Youth Secretaries.
  • Participate in camp cleanup at the end of each camp.
  • Be available to attend all staff devotions and meetings.
  • Other work-related duties as assigned.
