About The Position

This role involves entering codes to create production databases, monitoring database performance, and directing programmers and analysts on database changes. The specialist will review and correct programs, answer user questions, and confer with coworkers to assess the impact of database changes. Key responsibilities include performance tuning, providing assistance in the planning, development, maintenance, and monitoring of integrated database systems, and ensuring consistency between application design phases and database structures. The role also entails evaluating user requests for new data elements and systems, incorporating them into the existing data environment, and offering technical assistance. Additionally, the specialist will coordinate data usage to ensure integrity and control redundancy, load and reorganize databases as needed, perform data modeling and prototyping, and create physical data models from logical ones. Security recovery procedures, database search strategies, and storage requirements will be managed. The role includes maintaining the data dictionary, monitoring database performance for efficiency improvements, and creating test database environments. The specialist will execute procedures for saving, retrieving, and recovering databases from failures, and assist with database security, disaster recovery procedures, and database software installation. Benchmarking, threshold testing, and database management software selection are also part of the duties. Experience in computer systems analysis or computer programming is required, along with knowledge of computer programming principles, systems design, operations, procedures, project control, data processing flowcharting, database structures, and current database technologies. A working knowledge of EIR Accessibility standards and assistive technologies is necessary, ensuring user interfaces are compliant and providing support for accessibility issues.

Requirements

  • 5 Years Required: Implementation experience with enterprise class databases e.g. Teradata, Oracle, SQL Server, etc. or similar technologies.
  • 5 Years Required: Implementation experience with analytical and reporting tools e.g. Business Objects, Cognos, Hyperion, MicroStrategy or similar tools.
  • 5 Years Required: Experience with data warehouse implementation process, from business requirements through logical modeling, physical database design, data sourcing and data transformation, data loading, Structured Query Language (SQL), end-user tools, database and SQL performance tuning.
  • 5 Years Required: Excellent analytical; problem-solving; team playing; and oral and written communication skills.
  • 5 Years Required: Proven ability to work successfully with technical and non-technical groups and manage multiple responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Enters codes to create production databases.
  • Selects and enters codes of utility programs to monitor database performance, such as distribution of records and amount of available memory.
  • Directs programmers and analysts to make changes to the database management system.
  • Reviews and corrects programs.

  • Loads databases and reorganizes as needed.
  • Performs data modeling and prototyping.
  • Performs logical and physical data modeling, designs relational database models, and creates physical data models from logical data models.
  • Performs security recovery procedures.
  • Determines and implements database search strategies and storage requirements.
  • Maintains data dictionary ensuring uniformity of definitions and sets standards for its use.
  • Monitors database performance and recommends efficiency improvements.
  • Creates test database environments for applications, including necessary libraries and procedures.
  • Executes procedures to save, retrieve, and recover databases from hardware and software failures.
  • Assists with determining, implementing, and enhancing standards on database security.
  • Assists with monitoring agency disaster recovery procedures and systems.
