Data Engineer Intern – Summer 2027 – Onsite in Dallas, TX
About The Position
Tenet Health is offering a Data & Analytics internship that applies classroom knowledge in a professional healthcare setting. The intern will gain practical data engineering experience and help advance capabilities across data ingestion, curation, orchestration, governance, and analytics. The Data & Analytics group works with data from disparate sources to support business intelligence reporting and dashboards, as well as retrospective and predictive analytics that help measure and improve the quality of care provided to Tenet communities. This is a full-time, paid internship onsite in Dallas, Texas, from June 7, 2027, through August 6, 2027. The program includes mentorship and professional development, exposure to real-world data engineering projects, networking with experienced professionals, and a capstone project related to the intern’s area of study. Future full-time employment may be possible.
Requirements
- Proficiency with at least one scripting language, such as Python.
- Proficiency with relational databases and SQL.
- Familiarity and experience with big data technologies such as Hive, Spark, or Presto.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and concisely.
- Ability to work independently and a passion for innovation and learning new technologies.
Nice To Haves
- Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent experience, with a passion for data.
- Excellent critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Interest in learning about healthcare information technology.
Responsibilities
- Build data pipelines and intelligent ingestion frameworks to extract, transform, and load data from various sources on Google Cloud Platform.
- Design and implement agentic software workflows and autonomous data tools using large language models and advanced AI engineering patterns.
- Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements, including automating manual processes, orchestrating AI-driven automation, and optimizing data delivery.
- Build infrastructure for extracting, transforming, and loading structured and unstructured data from a wide variety of sources.
- Assist with data- and AI-related technical issues and support internal data and model infrastructure needs.
- Create intelligent tools to assist analytics and data scientist team members in building, deploying, and optimizing products.
- Collaborate with data, AI, and analytics experts to improve the functionality, intelligence, and automation of data systems.
