About The Position

Tenet Health is offering a Data Engineer internship in its Data & Analytics group. The internship integrates classroom knowledge and theory with practical application in a professional corporate healthcare setting. The intern will gain experience with data engineering and contribute to capabilities across data ingestion, curation, orchestration, governance, and analytics. The group works with data from disparate sources to support business intelligence reporting and dashboards, as well as retrospective and predictive analytics, helping measure and improve the quality of care delivered to the communities Tenet serves.

This is a paid, full-time internship based onsite in Dallas, Texas, from June 7, 2027, through August 6, 2027. The program offers mentorship and professional development, exposure to real-world data engineering projects and challenges, networking with experienced professionals, and a capstone project related to the intern’s area of study. Future full-time employment may be possible.

Requirements

• Proficient in at least one scripting language, such as Python.
• Proficient with relational databases and SQL.
• Familiarity and experience with big data technologies such as Hive, Spark, or Presto.
• Able to communicate technical concepts clearly and concisely.
• Demonstrates independence and a passion for innovation and learning new technologies.

Nice To Haves

• Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent experience, with a passion for data.
• Excellent critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Interest in learning about healthcare information technology.

Responsibilities

• Build data pipelines and intelligent ingestion frameworks to extract, transform, and load data from various sources on Google Cloud Platform.
• Design and implement agentic software workflows and autonomous data tools using large language models and advanced AI engineering patterns.
• Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements, including automating manual processes, orchestrating AI-driven automation, and optimizing data delivery.
• Build infrastructure for extracting, transforming, and loading structured and unstructured data from a wide variety of sources.
• Assist with data- and AI-related technical issues and support internal data and model infrastructure needs.
• Create intelligent tools to help analytics and data scientist team members build, deploy, and optimize products.
• Collaborate with data, AI, and analytics experts to improve the functionality, intelligence, and automation of data systems.
