About The Position

Symetra is hiring a Data Analytics Intern for its 12-week Summer 2027 internship program, which is entirely remote. The intern will support the design and maintenance of clean, reliable, well-modeled datasets that power analytics across the organization. They will learn about Symetra’s products and workflows, collaborate with engineers and analysts, and contribute to data products that support business objectives. Interns will be matched to a team based on their skills and interests. Potential placements include Shared Services, Analytics Engineering (Data Platform—Hosting, AI Engineering, or Partner Data Ecosystem), Compliance Data Analytics, and Stop Loss Data Analytics. Work may include stakeholder-focused analytics or data science deliverables; Python and SQL pipelines and transformations; internal AI applications; Partner Relationship Management data analysis and tools; compliance dashboards and workflow automation; or SQL, Python, Snowflake, dbt, BI, and AI work supporting Stop Loss analytics. The internship includes building and refining pipelines and transformations for defined use cases, structuring imperfect or unstructured data into documented analytical models, prototyping dashboards and BI views, contributing to data quality checks and basic testing, documenting work, presenting results, and learning analytics engineering best practices. Symetra ships interns the equipment needed to work from home. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States throughout their employment; visa sponsorship and support are not provided. Remote employees must have internet service of at least 100 Mbps download and 20 Mbps upload through fiber, cable, or DSL; satellite, cellular broadband, other wireless technology, and wired dial-up are not permitted.

  • Exposure to NLP, sentiment analysis, or LLM workflows such as summarization and embeddings.
  • Experience with orchestration tools such as Airflow, Prefect, or Dagster, and Git-based delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Build and refine Python and SQL data pipelines and transformations for defined use cases.
  • Structure messy or unstructured data into analyzable, documented models.
  • Prototype dashboards and BI views that communicate findings and KPIs.
  • Contribute to data quality checks, basic testing, and clear documentation.

  • Depending on team placement, work with business stakeholders to identify analytics or data science needs and deliver analytics, dashboards, or AI/LLM work.
  • Depending on team placement, build and deploy internal AI-powered applications or support Partner Relationship Management data analysis and prototypes.
  • Depending on team placement, build and support Power BI dashboards and SQL analytics, improve workflows through automation and AI-enabled tools, or create BI-ready Stop Loss insights and data marts.
