About The Position

LMI is seeking a Data Analyst to support a major office at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) through data analysis, reporting, business process improvement, and Microsoft Power Platform solutions. The role provides hands-on analytical and business support for operational improvement, digital modernization, workflow analysis, performance measurement, data quality, and decision support. The analyst translates business and mission questions into clear data and reporting requirements; identifies data needs, assesses source quality, prepares and validates information, and delivers accurate, decision-ready dashboards, reports, and recurring analyses. The position combines independent ownership of moderately complex, multi-source analysis and Power Platform work with practical delivery support, including documentation, testing, data maintenance, stakeholder coordination, and request tracking. Working with project managers, developers, technical teams, and VA stakeholders, the analyst helps shape analytical approaches, reviews outputs for quality, and communicates findings and limitations in plain language. The role is remote and requires the ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, Business Analytics, or a related field is preferred.
  • At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in data analysis, business intelligence, reporting, operational analytics, business analysis, or a comparable role, including independent ownership of complex analytical or reporting deliverables.
  • Hands-on experience with Power BI, including creating or maintaining reports and dashboards, connecting to data, and building basic visuals and calculations.
  • Practical experience writing SQL queries, including filtering and joining data, and understanding relational tables, primary and foreign keys, and relationships.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, data manipulation, and data quality checks.
  • Ability to gather requirements, document processes, and translate stakeholder needs into actionable reporting, data, and support tasks.
  • Comfort with detailed operational support activities such as data entry, documentation updates, ticket management, and follow-up coordination.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, sound data-quality judgment, attention to detail, collaboration, and ability to independently manage competing priorities and communicate assumptions or limitations to stakeholders.
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.

  • Exposure to building or configuring basic Power Apps and working with Dataverse tables, fields, forms, and related data.
  • Familiarity with Jira, Microsoft Azure DevOps, Aha!, or similar tools for documenting, updating, and tracking work items in Agile/Scrum delivery.
  • Working knowledge of Power Query and basic data transformation or modeling concepts.
  • Basic familiarity with HTML and JavaScript.
  • Experience supporting federal or government clients, including VA stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with healthcare, program management, or program evaluation data.
  • Exposure to UI/UX or user-centered design concepts and interest in relevant Microsoft certifications such as PL-300.

Responsibilities

  • Build, update, and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards, and visualizations; connect to approved data sources and develop basic measures, calculations, and filters.
  • Write and adapt SQL queries to extract, filter, join, and validate data across relevant sources, applying knowledge of relational tables, relationships, and keys.
  • Perform data entry, cleansing, reconciliation, validation, and quality checks; identify discrepancies and coordinate their resolution.
  • Translate stakeholder questions into data requirements, metrics, filters, business rules, validation checks, and reporting outputs; document processes, assumptions, and known limitations.
  • Support configuration and maintenance of simple Power Apps, Dataverse tables and forms, and Power Automate workflows such as notifications, approvals, and data movement.
  • Assist with testing, user acceptance testing, issue reproduction, and documentation of defects, enhancements, and change requests.
  • Create, update, prioritize with guidance, and track work items through the sprint or delivery cycle in Jira, Azure DevOps, Aha!, or comparable tools.
  • Coordinate with client stakeholders and teammates to track requests, action items, status, dependencies, and follow-ups; communicate progress and escalate blockers.
  • Use Excel, Power Query, and other approved tools for basic analysis, manipulation, and recurring reporting support.
  • Maintain process documentation, user guides, standard operating procedures, data definitions, and project/status materials.
  • Own assigned analysis and reporting work through delivery; perform quality and reasonableness reviews, help improve team standards, and provide guidance or peer review as appropriate while following approved data-handling and Power Platform practices.
