About The Position

The Dairy Manager oversees the activities and functions of the Dairy Department to achieve and maximize sales and profits. The role provides direction, coordination, and evaluation for the department while maintaining presentation and sanitation standards on the sales floor and in the backroom cooler. The manager processes and stocks products according to Sprouts dairy standards, controls inventory and product freshness, handles department price changes, and delivers outstanding customer service. The Dairy Manager leads department team members through coaching, feedback, development discussions, scheduling, and communication of standards and product knowledge. In collaboration with the Store Manager, the role participates in recruiting, hiring, and promotion or transfer decisions, and addresses team member concerns and performance issues. The position also requires attending in-store meetings, maintaining safety and regulatory compliance, and performing department housekeeping and product-handling tasks.

Requirements

At least 18 years of age.
At least 2 years of retail grocery experience.
Good communication skills and the ability to give and take direction in a team environment.
Ability to work a flexible schedule that changes with business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Working knowledge of personnel reports, margin reports, weekly sales numbers, and financial goals.
Outgoing and friendly behavior and a positive attitude toward team members and customers.
Ability to operate and use knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks, and hand trucks as needed.
Knowledge of scales and weight measures to accurately weigh and label products.
Ability to stand continuously for up to 3 hours and for a total of 8 hours per shift.
Ability to vertically transfer trays weighing up to 5 pounds from 7 to 64 inches for up to 10 hours.
Ability to vertically and horizontally transfer items weighing up to 40 pounds from 5 to 36 inches, across distances up to 36 feet, for up to 10 hours without mechanical assistance.
Adhere to safety, health, and Weights and Measures regulations and obtain and maintain a Food Handlers permit.

Responsibilities

Manage Dairy Department activities and functions to achieve and maximize sales and profits.
Direct department clerks and oversee presentation and sanitation standards on the sales floor and in the backroom cooler.
Process and stock products according to Sprouts dairy standards.
Deliver outstanding customer service.
Provide overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the department.
Control inventory to recommended stock levels using ordering techniques that maximize sales and minimize stock loss.
Rotate products and remove out-of-code items to maintain freshness.
Complete department price changes.
Coach, give feedback to, and develop team members; conduct bi-annual performance reviews and recommend merit increases.
Attend and participate in in-store meetings.
Recruit, hire, and make promotion or transfer decisions in collaboration with the Store Manager.
Use independent judgment to address team member concerns.
Document and take corrective action as needed, collaborating with business and HR partners on performance management, including coaching, counseling, progressive discipline, suspension, or termination.
Create and adjust schedules and staffing levels to maximize productivity and efficiency.
Communicate standards, expectations, policy changes, and product knowledge to team members.
Lead the team in delivering quality products, service, and customer experiences.
Answer phones and take special orders.
Perform general housekeeping and clean and sanitize department work areas and equipment.
Follow safety, health, and Weights and Measures regulations and maintain a Food Handlers permit.
