About The Position

ACCEL Schools is hiring Daily Substitute Teachers to support Barber Preparatory Academy and Inkster Preparatory Academy in Michigan. The schools serve PK–8 students and aim to provide a superior education while fostering a love of learning. Substitute Teachers help create positive, engaging classrooms that support academic growth and students’ social-emotional development. The role supports classroom instruction, student supervision, and school procedures throughout the school day. ACCEL Schools is a network of more than 80 public charter schools serving PK–12 students. Its schools reflect the communities they serve and offer programs that include community service learning, competitive sports, career-technical education, sports training, and bilingual programming.

Requirements

Be eligible for or currently hold a State of Michigan Substitute Teaching License.
Have a minimum of 60 completed college credit hours; education or a related field is preferred.
Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Be able to manage confidential information appropriately.
Be able to pass federal and state criminal background checks.

Nice To Haves

Experience working with students or in an urban environment; this is a plus but not required.
College coursework in education or a related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

Support classroom instruction and help maintain a safe, welcoming learning environment.
Supervise students throughout the school day in classrooms, hallways, playgrounds, and cafeterias.
Follow provided lesson plans and school procedures.
Use school-approved curricula that reflect students’ diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds.
Build positive relationships with students and school staff.
Collaborate and communicate effectively with colleagues.
Perform other duties as assigned.
