About The Position

Labcorp is seeking a Cytotechnologist to join our team at University of Tennesse Medical Center in Knoxville, TN. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday with (8a - 4:30p) & rotating half Saturdays (8am - 12:00p). This role involves screening and evaluating gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens to determine possible malignant or abnormal conditions. The Cytotechnologist will perform microscopic evaluation of cytological specimens, maintain accurate documentation, and assist with Fine Needle Aspirations. They will also finalize testing results and provide backup for cytology processing as needed, while adhering to all safety, infection control, and HIPAA policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Cytology Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology
  • Completion of a Cytology program
  • ASCP Cytotechnologist (CT) Certification
  • TN state Cytotechnologist license

Nice To Haves

  • Masters’ degree in Cytology
  • 3 months or more of Cytology experience
  • ThinPrep and SurePath certifications
  • Able to pass slide screening requirements and annual CAP proficiency test
  • Demonstrated understanding of Cyto preparation techniques
  • Automated and non-automated testing experience
  • Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
  • Experience in a high volume clinical laboratory environment
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems
  • High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

Responsibilities

  • Screen and evaluate any gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens sent to the laboratory for the determination of possible malignant or related abnormal conditions
  • Screening of all liquid based cytology, both manual and imaged, as well as conventional slides
  • Perform microscopic evaluation of cytological specimens following laboratory procedures and policies
  • Ensure proper documentation of workload recording, including screening and non-screening activities as required by CLIA and laboratory guidelines
  • Maintain absolute integrity in the accurate performance and reporting of results
  • Assist with Fine Needle Aspirations
  • Meet slide screening requirements as per standard operating procedure
  • Finalize testing results into the computer in an accurate and timely manner
  • Provide backup for cytology processing and other tasks as needed
  • Comply with all safety, infection control and HIPAA policies
