CV/ML Generalist Engineer

Apple•Sunnyvale, CA

About The Position

Apple is seeking a creative, versatile Computer Vision and Machine Learning (CVML) Generalist Engineer to join a team of researchers and engineers building generative machine learning systems and frameworks for image and video generation, with a focus on human subjects. The role is in a fast-paced, startup-like environment and will help the team scale through smart engineering and AI-driven tools. The engineer will work with cross-functional partners to build algorithms and systems for Apple's next-generation products. The ideal candidate combines strong computer vision and machine learning foundations with hands-on experience in agentic workflows. They should be comfortable owning complex systems end to end, including building, evaluating, and shipping them; act independently; and communicate effectively across the organization. Particularly relevant areas include generative computer vision and machine learning research, large-scale computer vision systems built with AI coding agents, human-centric computer vision, and neural rendering or world models.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field and 3+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated ownership and initiative to drive work forward independently.
  • Excellent problem-solving, critical-thinking, and communication skills.
  • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of machine learning and deep learning.
  • Experience building and evaluating LLM/VLM-powered agents, including tool use, multi-step reasoning, planning, and context management.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and/or C++.
  • Experience with a deep learning framework such as PyTorch or JAX.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field.
  • Deep expertise in computer vision and machine learning, with a strong focus on deep generative models such as GANs, VAEs, or diffusion models.
  • Knowledge of modern vision data visualization methods, such as 3D Gaussian Splatting or neural volume rendering.
  • Familiarity with modern graphics technology for high-fidelity 3D human generation, such as photogrammetry, computational hair modeling, physics-based hair or cloth simulation, or physically based shading.
  • Published research in leading computer vision conferences or forums such as CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, or NeurIPS.
  • Deep experience in two or more of the following areas: generative CV/ML research and algorithm development, especially image and video synthesis; large-scale, end-to-end computer vision systems with AI coding agents; human-centric computer vision such as digital humans, motion synthesis, body tracking, or generative avatars; neural rendering or world models.

Responsibilities

  • Build, evaluate, and ship complex computer vision and machine learning systems.
  • Develop algorithms and systems for Apple's next-generation products in collaboration with cross-functional partners.
  • Contribute to generative machine learning systems and frameworks for image and video generation, particularly those focused on human subjects.
  • Help the team scale through smart engineering and AI-driven tools.
  • Build and evaluate LLM/VLM-powered agents involving tool use, multi-step reasoning, planning, and context management.
