Senior CV/ML Generalist Engineer

Apple•Sunnyvale, CA

About The Position

Apple is seeking a creative, versatile Senior Computer Vision and Machine Learning (CVML) Generalist Engineer to join a team of researchers and engineers building generative machine-learning systems and frameworks for image and video generation, with a focus on human subjects. The role is based in a fast-paced, startup-like environment and involves helping the team scale through smart engineering and AI-driven tools, while collaborating with cross-functional partners to develop algorithms and systems for Apple’s next-generation products. The engineer will build and improve image- and video-generation models, algorithms, and systems, especially for human subjects. They will own vision-based systems end to end, from prototyping through production, and build new technology while maintaining existing systems. The role also involves using AI and coding tools to work more efficiently and translating research into product-ready solutions with researchers, engineers, and cross-functional partners. The ideal candidate combines strong computer vision and machine-learning foundations with hands-on experience building agentic workflows. They are comfortable owning complex systems from start to finish, including building, evaluating, and shipping them, and are self-driven, proactive, and able to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization. Strong candidates have deep experience in at least two areas such as generative computer vision and machine-learning research, large-scale end-to-end computer vision systems built with AI coding agents, human-centric computer vision, or neural rendering and world models.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field and at least 5 years of relevant experience, or equivalent experience.
  • High agency, with the ability to take ownership and drive work forward independently.
  • Excellent problem-solving, critical-thinking, and communication skills.
  • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of machine learning and deep learning.
  • Experience building and evaluating LLM/VLM-powered agents, including tool use, multi-step reasoning, planning, and context management.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and/or C++, and experience with a deep-learning framework such as PyTorch or JAX.
  • Deep experience in two or more of the following areas: generative computer vision/machine-learning research and algorithm development, especially image and video synthesis; large-scale end-to-end computer vision systems built with AI coding agents; human-centric computer vision such as digital humans, motion synthesis, body tracking, or generative avatars; neural rendering or world models.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field.
  • Deep expertise in computer vision and machine learning, with a strong focus on deep generative models such as GANs, VAEs, and diffusion models.
  • Knowledge of modern vision data visualization methods, such as 3D Gaussian Splatting and neural volume rendering.
  • Familiarity with modern graphics technology for high-fidelity 3D human generation, such as photogrammetry, computational hair modeling, physics-based hair or cloth simulation, or physically based shading.
  • Published research in top-tier computer vision conferences such as CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, or NeurIPS, or other leading forums, demonstrating contributions to advancing computer vision and machine learning.

Responsibilities

  • Build and improve image- and video-generation models, algorithms, and systems, especially for human subjects.
  • Own vision-based systems end to end, from prototype to production.
  • Build new technology and maintain existing systems, using AI and coding tools to work faster.
  • Work with researchers, engineers, and cross-functional partners to turn research into product-ready solutions.
