About The Position

Provo City is hiring part-time custodians to clean and maintain the Provo Recreation Center for the enjoyment of Provo residents. The role includes custodial work, general building and grounds maintenance, and minor plumbing and electrical repairs. The position is scheduled for 25 hours. Compensation is $12.00–$18.00 per hour; day-shift pay starts at $12.00 per hour and night-shift pay starts at $14.00 per hour.

Applicants must have two years of experience in general custodial, building, and grounds maintenance, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Each year of post-secondary education or training may substitute for six months of experience. A valid, lawful driver license is required. If selected, candidates must pass a drug screen and criminal background check.

Requirements

• Two years of experience in general custodial, building, and grounds maintenance, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the work.
• Each year of post-secondary education or training may substitute for six months of experience.
• A valid, lawful driver license is required.
• If selected for hire, successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check.
• Physical strength and agility to perform the duties, including frequent bending, stretching, reaching, assuming uncomfortable positions, walking, climbing, and moving objects.
• Frequently lift objects weighing 20–25 pounds and occasionally lift objects weighing 25–50 pounds.
• Periodic exposure to adverse weather conditions, cleaning agents, chemicals, and other caustic substances.

Responsibilities

• Clean, maintain, and sanitize City buildings, offices, restrooms, grounds, fixtures, and other designated areas.
• Sweep, mop, seal, wax, and polish floors; vacuum and shampoo carpets.
• Wash walls, woodwork, windows, doors, desks, ceilings, and other surfaces.
• Collect and dispose of waste, including emptying garbage containers and replacing liners.
• Perform minor plumbing and electrical repairs, including unstopping lavatories and replacing fluorescent tubes and ballasts.
• Perform general building maintenance, including replacing windows, patching holes, replacing tiles, and fixing door jambs.
• Maintain general cleaning equipment, including changing filters.
• Complete work with minimal disturbance to building occupants.
• Maintain building security by ensuring doors and windows are locked and secured.
• Post announcements.
• Perform other related work as required.
