About The Position

The Facilities Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and appearance of county buildings and surrounding properties. Duties include cleaning and disinfecting interiors and high-touch surfaces, maintaining floors and carpets, servicing restrooms, emptying trash, and keeping grounds and playground areas free of debris. The position may also involve setting up facilities for events, opening and closing buildings, monitoring building security, and identifying or reporting maintenance and safety needs. The work takes place across a variety of buildings and outdoor areas, with travel between assignments by foot or car. Most work is indoors in heated and air-conditioned spaces, while some is outdoors in seasonal temperatures and weather. The role involves physical activity, including standing, walking, climbing, bending, crouching, twisting, and frequently lifting up to 35 pounds. Employees are expected to wear durable clothing and appropriate protective equipment.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Must be at least 18 years old.
Must successfully pass a criminal background check and periodic or random drug screenings.
Valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance.
Must maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report (MVR).
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to follow safety procedures and operational policies.
Strong attention to detail and cleanliness standards.
Professional and courteous communication skills.
Dependability and ability to adapt to varied tasks.
Ability to frequently lift 35 pounds.
Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, walking, sitting, climbing, bending, crouching, and twisting.
Hand and foot dexterity to operate cleaning equipment and complete paperwork; hearing and speech to communicate in person and by telephone; and good vision.

Responsibilities

Sweep, mop, dust, and disinfect building interiors, including bathrooms and common areas.
Dust furniture and clean surfaces.
Clean and service restrooms, restocking supplies as needed.
Vacuum and shampoo carpets and buff or wax floors as directed.
Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors with appropriate tools and cleaning agents.
Disinfect high-touch surfaces and fog buildings with disinfectants when required.
Empty trash receptacles and clean or replace liners.
Move and arrange furniture or equipment, including event setups such as dance floors.
Unlock and/or lock facilities for events occurring during or after business hours.
Monitor building security and safety, including locking doors and checking electrical appliances.
Identify and report maintenance needs or safety concerns.
Use pressure washers to clean building exteriors and walkways.
Drive motorized utility vehicles for cleaning and maintenance.
Keep playground areas clean and free of debris.
Remove snow and ice from walkways and parking areas as needed.
Maintain litter control across the campus.
Maintain the overall cosmetic appearance of buildings and property.
Perform other duties as assigned by management, possibly without prior notice.
