About The Position

The Custodian follows routine cleaning procedures to maintain high standards of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in building operations and grounds. This position works afternoons, Monday through Friday, on a 242-workday schedule and is at-will. The role reports to the Campus Principal and Region Custodial Supervisor. The listed date available is ASAP, and the position is open until filled. The position requires maintaining the school’s interior and exterior spaces, supporting facility security and safety, operating and inspecting cleaning equipment, and contributing to the charter’s community and learning environment. The listed duties are not exhaustive; other responsibilities or required skills may be assigned.

Requirements

High school graduate or GED preferred.
Ability to read and understand cleaning instructions for several types of floors and spaces.
Ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipment.
Ability to properly handle cleaning supplies.
Ability to read, write, and speak English.
Frequent walking, standing, climbing, and heavy lifting and carrying are required.
Ability to work inside and outside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces, and on ladders.
Ability to work in a constant fast-paced environment and tolerate exposure to hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals, and materials.

Responsibilities

Maintain a cleaning schedule covering floors, chalkboards, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment, and restrooms.
Maintain the school building and grounds, including sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and playgrounds, as needed.
Assist with opening and closing buildings each school day.
Follow procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities.
Check daily that exit doors are open and panic bolts are working properly while the building is occupied.
Inspect cleaning equipment for safety and efficiency.
Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
Follow safety procedures and techniques when performing duties, including lifting and climbing.
Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and immediately report conditions that cannot be corrected to a supervisor.
Convey the charter’s mission to the public and encourage support for its accomplishment.
Demonstrate understanding of charter and community needs and begin activities to meet those needs.
Use productive and efficient skills to raise community and parent involvement.
Actively participate in student recruitment efforts.
Encourage a constructive, thoughtful climate for learning.
Promote fairness for students and staff from all cultural backgrounds.
Communicate effectively with students and staff in ways that promote and sustain the Jubilee culture.
