Custodian- Early Morning Hours
About The Position
Hy-Vee is seeking a Custodian to keep the store clean, safe, and welcoming for customers and employees. The position is responsible for the cleanliness and appearance of the store inside and out, maintaining equipment, and supporting a positive store environment. The role involves customer service, cleaning and sanitation, routine maintenance, monitoring store fixtures and systems, and assisting in other store areas as needed. Training is provided; no education or experience is required. Applicants must be at least 18 years old. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions in a variety of situations with limited standardization.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers accurately.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions.
- Ability to communicate supply needs orally or in writing.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- No education or experience requirements; training is provided.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen is required.
Responsibilities
- Provide prompt, friendly customer service, greet customers, learn their names, and make interactions positive.
- Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the store inside and out through sweeping, mopping, waxing, buffing, vacuuming, power washing, scrubbing, dusting, shampooing carpets, and sanitizing.
- Change ceiling lights and install or replace towel, paper, and soap dispensers as needed.
- Monitor plumbing, fixtures, coolers, and freezers, and notify supervisors of issues.
- Empty garbage and crush cardboard throughout the shift.
- Unclog drains as needed and perform routine equipment maintenance.
- Clean store cooling systems and filters.
- Order cleaning products as needed and audit invoices for correctness where applicable.
- Conduct quarterly inventory of products, including costs and amounts used.
- Perform price checks, return carts from the parking lot, and sack for customers as needed.
- Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as assigned.
- Follow Hy-Vee policies and individual store guidelines.
- Report to work as scheduled and on time.
