About The Position
Maintain and perform general custodial duties in buildings under the jurisdiction of the Suffolk County Sheriff. This role is at our Nashua Street Jail location and is for the 2nd shift.
Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. often and up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
- Ability to periodically bend, squat or kneel to perform assigned tasks.
- Ability to physically handle machine buffer, mops, and buckets.
- Knowledge of and compliance with all security procedures.
- Cooperation with other staff.
Nice To Haves
- Prior custodial experience is preferable.
Responsibilities
- Maintain general cleanliness and order of assigned areas.
- Perform floor maintenance including sweeping, mopping, stripping, waxing, machine buffing, and vacuuming rugs.
- Remove trash and empty/re-line trash receptacles.
- Collect paper from recycling bins and deposit in a central location.
- Clean and disinfect staff restrooms, including restocking supplies and cleaning fixtures.
- Clean and disinfect staff locker rooms, including dusting lockers and washing doors.
- Wash tables in the staff dining room daily and clean chairs as needed.
- Dust furniture and vacuum rugs in private offices, control centers, and conference rooms weekly.
- Move small furniture or equipment as needed to complete assigned tasks.
- Wash and polish windows as directed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Sheriff.
- Know and comply with all security procedures.
- Cooperate with other staff.
