About The Position

The School Custodian is responsible for keeping the school's buildings, equipment, and furnishings clean and safe for students to learn in. They perform a variety of duties, including cleaning, trash removal, restroom maintenance, general building maintenance, and ensuring safety for students. Custodians may also assist with loading and unloading supplies, work with other custodial team members to ensure supplies are stocked, and follow procedures for using chemical cleaners and power machinery.

Responsibilities

• Sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming floors
• Dusting furniture, walls, and equipment
• Cleaning windows, mirrors, and partitions
• Emptying trash receptacles and bags trash for proper disposal
• Scrubbing, sanitizing, and supplying restroom facilities
• Changing light bulbs and ceiling tiles
• Ensuring proper care of equipment and supplies
• Tidying furniture, taking out trash, and dusting surfaces to prepare spaces for the next day
• Making sure the building is safe for students, including checking for leaks, broken rooms, and ensuring classrooms are locked during emergencies
• Assisting with loading and unloading supplies
• Working with other members of the custodial team to ensure cleaning supplies are stocked and ready
• Following procedures for using chemical cleaners and power machinery to prevent damage to floors and fixtures
