About The Position

The Custodian is responsible for the cleanliness and sanitation of assigned areas. The role performs janitorial and scheduled duties, maintains the upkeep of the work area, and carries out hazardous-waste responsibilities, including collecting, classifying, sorting, storing, shipping and receiving, labeling, cleaning, recycling, and packaging special and hazardous waste. The Custodian operates motorized cleaning equipment and follows safety rules, company procedures, and protocols, including using appropriate personal protective equipment and reporting incidents or hazardous conditions to a supervisor. The Custodian works with other employees, takes direction from supervisors, communicates professionally with colleagues, managers, leads, and customers, and supports the shift lead with punch-list items. The role may require filling in during staff shortages and driving to various work locations, customer sites, or company facilities. This position has no supervisory responsibilities. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Compensation is $15–$16 per hour. SBM offers comprehensive benefit packages; details are available on the company's careers website.

Requirements

No specific education requirement.
Three to six months of training or experience preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Complete all required safety and task training certifications.
A valid driver's license may be required based on business needs; employees who drive for work must maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record and meet company driving eligibility requirements.
Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment, including equipment upkeep and care.
Knowledge of cleaning compounds and chemicals and their safe, efficient use.
Ability to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.

Nice To Haves

Bilingual ability is a plus.
Forklift certification may be required.

Responsibilities

Perform janitorial duties and all duties listed on the daily schedule.
Collect, classify, sort, store, ship and receive, label, clean, recycle, and package special and hazardous waste.
Operate motorized cleaning equipment and maintain assigned areas and equipment.
Report incidents and hazardous conditions to a supervisor and comply with safety rules, policies, and procedures.
Stop at-risk behavior by oneself or others, use proper personal protective equipment, and maintain a clean work area.
Work with other employees, perform repetitive tasks, take direction, and respond to supervision.
Communicate professionally with leads, supervisors, co-workers, managers, and customers.
Fill in during staff shortages and support the shift lead in completing punch-list items.
Maintain a professional appearance and conduct and understand customer service and satisfaction.
Drive to various work locations, customer sites, or company facilities when necessary.
Follow protocols, company procedures, policies, and rules and understand reporting systems and the work environment.
