About The Position
The Custodian maintains the cleanliness, sanitation, safety, and overall appearance of the Sioux Falls Family YMCA facility. The role supports a clean, welcoming environment for members, guests, and staff by completing assigned daily, weekly, and periodic cleaning tasks throughout the facility. Duties may vary based on operational needs and are directed through posted cleaning lists, supervisor instructions, or facility schedules. This is a full-time, non-exempt position reporting to the Member Services Manager. The schedule is either 3:00 p.m.–11:30 p.m. with a half-hour lunch or 2:30 p.m.–11:30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch, working Wednesday–Sunday or Thursday–Monday. The position is based at the Sioux Falls Family YMCA, 220 S. Minnesota Ave.
Requirements
- Reliable, punctual, and committed to maintaining assigned work schedules.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
- Knowledge of cleaning procedures, equipment, and safety practices, or willingness to learn.
- Ability to manage time effectively and complete assigned tasks efficiently.
- Ability to perform essential physical duties, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Strong communication skills and a positive, professional attitude.
- Commitment to YMCA policies, safety standards, and maintaining a clean, welcoming environment.
- Ability to follow written cleaning lists and verbal instructions consistently.
Nice To Haves
- Previous custodial or janitorial experience is preferred but not required.
Responsibilities
- Complete assigned daily and weekly custodial cleaning lists in accordance with YMCA standards.
- Maintain cleanliness throughout the facility through scheduled routine and deep cleaning.
- Respond promptly to spills, accidents, and urgent cleaning needs.
- Safely use and maintain cleaning equipment and supplies.
- Follow YMCA safety, sanitation, and chemical-handling procedures.
- Communicate facility or maintenance concerns to a supervisor in a timely manner.
- Assist with special cleaning projects, events, or other assigned duties.
- Work in any area of the facility as needed and meet facility-wide cleanliness standards.
