Custodian
About The Position
The Custodian is responsible for the cleanliness and sanitation of all assigned areas. The role performs janitorial duties and scheduled upkeep, handles special and hazardous waste, operates motorized cleaning equipment, and maintains a clean work area. The Custodian follows safety requirements, uses appropriate personal protective equipment, reports incidents and hazardous conditions, works with others, and responds to supervision. The position may require driving to different work locations, customer sites, or company facilities. The role has no supervisory responsibilities.
Requirements
- No specific education requirement.
- Ability to perform the essential duties safely and satisfactorily.
- Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment, including the upkeep and care of cleaning equipment.
- Knowledge of cleaning compounds and chemicals and their safe, efficient use.
- Completion of all safety and task training certification.
- A valid driver's license may be required based on business needs; employees who drive for work must maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record and meet company driving eligibility requirements.
Nice To Haves
- Three to six months of training or experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Bilingual ability.
- Forklift certification may be required.
Responsibilities
- Perform janitorial duties and all duties listed on the daily schedule.
- Collect, classify, sort, store, ship and receive, label, clean, recycle, and package special and hazardous waste.
- Operate motorized cleaning equipment and maintain its upkeep and care.
- Maintain the daily upkeep of assigned areas and keep the work area clean.
- Report incidents and hazardous conditions to a supervisor.
- Comply with safety rules, policies, and procedures, and use proper personal protective equipment.
- Stop at-risk behavior by oneself or others.
- Perform repetitive tasks and work assignments as part of a team.
- Follow protocols, company procedures, policies, and rules; take direction and respond to supervision.
- Communicate professionally with leads, supervisors, coworkers, managers, and customers.
- Fill in during staff shortages and support the shift lead in completing punch-list items.
- Maintain a professional appearance and conduct and understand customer service and satisfaction.
- Understand reporting systems and the work environment.
