About The Position

The Custodian, also referred to as a Janitor, is responsible for the general maintenance and cleanliness of equipment, facilities, and grounds. The position performs heavy and routine cleaning, supports facility setup and maintenance, maintains supplies and records, and may assist other departments or work in other production positions as needed. The role also requires following supervisory direction and maintaining efficiency and safety standards throughout the shift.

Requirements

• Recognize colors and sizes and count and sort accurately.
• At some locations, be able and certified to safely operate a powered industrial truck.
• Have basic knowledge of cleaning products and procedures, or be willing to learn.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work effectively with a team.
• Ability to work independently and understand and follow written or verbal directions.
• Ability to meet the physical demands for the entire shift, including standing, walking, bending, reaching, twisting, working in cramped areas, reaching overhead, pushing, pulling, grasping, lifting up to 90 pounds, carrying up to 50 pounds, and stooping.

Responsibilities

• Perform heavy cleaning duties, including cleaning plant equipment with compressed air and other methods.
• Scrub, sanitize, vacuum, sweep, and mop areas and surfaces.
• Dispose of trash, clean spills, replace air fresheners, change light bulbs, lock doors, paint, and maintain water coolers.
• Prepare facilities for meetings, banquets, and other events.
• Clean offices, bathrooms, break rooms, and other areas.
• Move furniture, supplies, textiles, or equipment within departments or into storage, and assist other departments with tasks.
• Apply insecticides and fumigants; trim shrubbery and perform other outdoor maintenance; clear walkways of snow or leaves.
• Participate in safety programs, use personal protective equipment as needed, and notify supervision about repair needs, spills, safety concerns, or hazardous situations.
• Keep maintenance records, monitor cleaning supplies, and restock supplies in bathrooms, break rooms, and other areas.
• Operate a powered industrial truck to move, transfer, load, and unload items.
• Meet efficiency and safety standards, follow supervisory instructions, and keep the work area neat and clean.
• Perform other tasks as required and work in other production positions as needed.
