About The Position

Compass Connections is hiring a compassionate and dependable Custodian for its facility in San Antonio, Texas. The organization provides emergency shelter and group home placement for children while working toward family reunification. The Custodian cleans, sanitizes, and maintains agency buildings and equipment in accordance with agency policies and applicable regulations, helping ensure safe and sanitary conditions that meet or exceed licensing and policy requirements. The role also involves operating and maintaining janitorial and maintenance equipment, reporting malfunctions and unsafe conditions, and supporting the safety and operations of the facility. The schedule is rotating, 7 a.m.–4 p.m. Fluency in English and Spanish is required. Employees may need to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed and requested by the supervisor.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 2 years of experience in janitorial or maintenance work.
• Knowledge of chemicals and reactions and the safe, proper use of cleaning supplies and equipment.
• Fluency in English and Spanish.
• First aid, CPR, and emergency behavior intervention certifications.
• Pass a pre-employment drug screen and random drug screens during employment.
• Provide proof of work eligibility upon request and be authorized to work for any employer in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available.
• Pass pre-employment and biennial criminal background checks.
• Respond sensitively and competently to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
• Work collaboratively with staff, service providers, and professionals.
• Read, analyze, and interpret policy manuals and documents.
• Work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining emotional control and professional composure.
• Organize and plan work.
• Maintain the computer literacy needed to perform the position’s responsibilities.
• Work effectively both independently without intensive supervision and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Demonstrate working knowledge of Compass Connections policies and procedures.
• Receive an annual influenza vaccination or obtain an approved medical or religious exemption, and provide proof as a new hire.

Responsibilities

• Meet applicable federal and state regulatory guidelines and standards.
• Maintain safe and sanitized conditions in agency buildings and equipment that meet or exceed licensing and policy requirements.
• Operate janitorial and maintenance equipment, report malfunctioning equipment immediately, and maintain knowledge of equipment used for assigned duties.
• Participate in scheduled meetings, team decisions, and operations.
• Follow safety protocols, including evacuating with children and other staff in an emergency.
• Work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed and requested by the supervisor.
• Maintain confidentiality in all areas of child and program operations.
• Follow professional and ethical standards, show respect for agency staff, children, and community members, and comply with the required dress code.
• Clean, sanitize, and maintain buildings and equipment according to agency policies, procedures, and applicable local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
• Report unsafe conditions to supervisory staff and suggest possible solutions to hazards.
• Meet deadlines required by the program and federal partners.
• Frequently travel between areas of the campus and move equipment weighing up to 100 pounds between areas.
• In Foster Care Programs, support, encourage, and recruit foster parents.
