About The Position

The Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of assigned areas. The role includes janitorial work, completing daily scheduled tasks, maintaining cleaning equipment, and handling hazardous waste responsibilities. The employee follows safety rules and company procedures, uses appropriate personal protective equipment, reports incidents and hazardous conditions, and works with colleagues and customers professionally. Driving to different work locations may be necessary. The position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements

No specific education requirement.
Three to six months of training or experience preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Complete all required safety and task-training certifications.
A valid driver's license may be required based on business needs; employees who drive for work must maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record and meet company driving eligibility requirements.
Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment, including equipment upkeep and care.
Knowledge of cleaning compounds and chemicals and their safe, efficient use.
Ability to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
Ability to perform the essential duties safely and satisfactorily.

Nice To Haves

Bilingual ability is a plus.
Forklift certification may be required.

Responsibilities

Perform janitorial duties and all duties listed on the daily schedule.
Collect, classify, sort, store, ship and receive, label, clean, recycle, and package special and hazardous waste.
Operate motorized cleaning equipment and maintain the upkeep of assigned areas and cleaning equipment.
Report incidents and hazardous conditions to a supervisor; follow safety rules, policies, procedures, and protocols; and stop at-risk behavior.
Perform work assignments with other employees, complete repetitive tasks, maintain a clean work area, and fill in during staff shortages.
Support the shift lead in completing punch-list items.
Use proper personal protective equipment and maintain a professional appearance and conduct.
Communicate professionally with leads, supervisors, co-workers, managers, and customers, and understand customer service and satisfaction.
Drive to various work locations, customer sites, or company facilities when necessary to perform essential functions.
Follow direction and respond to supervision; understand reporting systems and the work environment.
