About The Position

Shenandoah University's Department of Custodial Services is hiring a Custodian to maintain clean, safe, and welcoming facilities for students, faculty, and staff. This is a full-time, benefited position on the university's main campus in Winchester, Virginia. The role requires commitment to cleanliness and order, attention to detail, diligence, and the physical endurance to cover a large area.

The custodian maintains buildings and grounds, performs routine cleaning, and safely uses and stores cleaning supplies and equipment. The position requires physical activity, including prolonged standing, walking, bending, and repetitive motions; lifting up to 50 pounds and heavy objects; climbing ladders; and working at various heights.

Requirements

• Knowledge of standard cleaning methodologies and procedures.
• Ability to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to bend, lift, pull, reach above the head, and move light furnishings as required for essential job functions.
• Capacity to perform repetitive motions for prolonged durations.
• Ability to lift heavy objects, ascend ladders, and work at various heights.
• Experience using cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners and floor buffers, and chemical cleaning solutions.
• Familiarity with handling, mixing, and applying cleaning chemicals.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety regulations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Dependability and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Maintain buildings and grounds in a clean, neat, and safe condition, adhering to company standards.
• Perform routine cleaning duties, including dusting, vacuuming, mopping, and cleaning restrooms.
• Use and maintain cleaning chemicals and supplies safely and effectively.
• Ensure equipment is maintained and properly stored.
