About The Position

The Custodian keeps Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum buildings and grounds clean and orderly. The role maintains indoor and outdoor public areas, restrooms, the Packrat Playhouse, and guest houses; replenishes supplies and handles waste and recycling; responds to biohazards and cleanup emergencies; reports needed repairs; and sets up and breaks down furniture and equipment for meetings and events. The position is full-time, non-exempt, and covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement. It reports to the Custodial Supervisor. The starting salary is $16.82 per hour, plus a comprehensive benefit package. An offer is contingent on clearing a pre-placement drug test. Requirements

High school diploma or GED, or one to three months of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos, and to write simple correspondence.
Ability to present information effectively in one-on-one and small-group situations.
Ability to perform basic arithmetic using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, calculate rates, ratios, and percentages, and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to apply common-sense understanding to written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions and solve problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Ability to be trained to perform basic data entry for timekeeping and email purposes.
Valid Arizona driver’s license.
Ability to perform the essential duties satisfactorily, with reasonable accommodations where applicable.
Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

Clean indoor and outdoor building areas, including dusting, polishing, sweeping, mopping, and stripping and waxing floors.
Clean the children’s indoor play area in Packrat Playhouse.
Clean and disinfect restrooms, including fixtures and high-touch areas.
Clean interior and exterior glass, except for glass inside exhibits.
Vacuum, spot-clean, shampoo, and extract carpets.
Launder linens and prepare one- and two-bedroom guest houses for guests.
Replenish supplies in restrooms, custodial closets, and kitchens.
Empty wastebaskets and garbage containers and transport waste to the disposal area.
Empty and recycle recycling containers and transport materials to the recycling area.
Clean sidewalks and patios, removing debris and gum with appropriate tools and supplies.
Clean and dispose of biohazards as trained by the supervisor.
Clean up after floods and other unforeseen emergencies.
Report repairs that are needed.
Set up and break down furniture and equipment for meetings and events as assigned.
