Full-Time Custodian
About The Position
Legacy Charter School is seeking a dependable full-time Custodian for the 2026–2027 school year. The Custodian helps maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment and is responsible for the overall cleanliness and upkeep of the building, both inside and out. The ideal candidate is hardworking, detail-oriented, takes pride in high standards of cleanliness, and can perform physical tasks and work independently. Previous custodial or building maintenance experience is preferred in the position summary, while the requirements section states that previous custodial or janitorial experience is required. Legacy Charter School serves approximately 468 scholars in Kindergarten through 8th grade in Chicago’s North Lawndale neighborhood. The position is located in Chicago, Illinois 60623 and pays $19–$21 per hour, with compensation depending on prior experience.
Requirements
- Previous custodial or janitorial experience is required.
- Knowledge of the use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances.
- Knowledge of the safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components.
- Attention to detail and conscientiousness.
- Very good physical condition and strength.
Nice To Haves
- A high school diploma is preferred but not required.
- Previous building maintenance experience is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Prepare spaces for the next day by taking out trash, tidying furniture, and dusting surfaces.
- Sweep and mop floors and vacuum carpets.
- Wash and sanitize toilets, sinks, and showers, and restock disposables such as soap.
- Wipe mirrors and windows and maintain the outer premises, including cleaning entrances and picking up trash.
- Report damages to the engineer and assist where needed.
- Secure facilities after operating hours by locking doors, closing windows, and setting the alarm.
- Perform occasional custodial and janitorial tasks, such as shoveling snow from the sidewalk, lifting heavy items, and moving chairs.
