About The Position

The Custodian serves the Department of Housing and Residence Life, maintaining cleanliness, sanitation, safety, and standards of excellence in assigned residence halls, dining areas, and other buildings. This is an essential position that maintains essential operations during emergencies and university closures. The work involves using cleaning equipment and chemicals, following safety precautions, and communicating with custodial supervisors. Applicants must submit at least two professional references with their application; additional references may be added after submission.

Requirements

• No minimum education or experience requirements.
• Follow oral and written instructions and read and understand chemical labels.
• Apply mathematical concepts to tasks such as measuring and mixing chemicals.
• Know cleaning methods and the proper use of cleaning equipment.
• Operate a vacuum cleaner, floor waxer, floor buffer, and other cleaning equipment.
• Have the physical ability to stand, stoop, operate cleaning equipment, and lift materials and equipment.
• Recognize and report building maintenance needs.
• Know safety and security precautions appropriate to the work performed.
• Maintain the security and integrity of critical organizational infrastructure related to the role.
• Submit a minimum of two professional references as part of the application.

Responsibilities

• Clean and sanitize assigned buildings by sweeping, mopping, stripping, waxing, and buffing floors and other areas, including moving furniture for cleaning.
• Remove trash and other waste from buildings on a scheduled basis.
• Follow standards provided by supervisory leadership and complete tasks within assigned time frames.
• Communicate with custodial supervisors daily.
• Report inappropriate actions, injuries, safety concerns, and related matters.
• Perform repairs to small custodial equipment and maintain area supplies.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisory leadership or the Community Director.
