Custodian
About The Position
The Custodian maintains the facility and grounds to ensure full and productive use of the facility. This temporary, part-time position is for the 2026–2027 school year, beginning in August 2026 and ending in May 2027. The position is based at the Mays Family Clubhouse in San Antonio, Texas, and the scheduled shift is Monday through Friday, 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. The role requires routine walking, standing, bending, carrying items up to 40 pounds, and the ability to operate power equipment and work in varied weather conditions. Requirements
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Strong communication skills and judgment.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Knowledge of safety hazards and proper use of cleaning and sanitizing solutions.
- Detail-oriented and thorough.
- Ability to perform basic repairs and operate tools or equipment used in routine maintenance.
- Ability to keep the clubhouse clean and orderly.
- Ability to interact professionally, politely, and courteously with staff, members, parents, and visitors.
- Ability to operate power equipment, including lawnmowers, trimmers, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers, and other landscaping equipment.
- Ability to use hand tools required for landscaping.
- Ability to follow instructions and complete assignments.
- Ability to walk, stand, bend, and carry items weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to operate power equipment and work in a variety of weather conditions.
Responsibilities
- Perform general cleaning and janitorial duties in common areas of the building.
- Collect and discard litter or other waste materials.
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance, such as replacing light fixtures or unclogging pipes.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms and the gymnasium.
- Perform limited grounds maintenance, including mowing lawns, trimming bushes, shrubs, weeds, and hedges, and cleaning sidewalks.
- Empty trash and recycling containers.
- Apply fertilizer, pesticides, and herbicides as directed.
- Ensure heating and cooling systems are operational.
- Maintain a neat and orderly janitor’s room and ensure cleaning and maintenance supplies are stocked.
- Wash windows.
- Assist in examining the clubhouse for safety hazards and report deficiencies to the Fleets and Facilities Manager and/or Branch Director.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
