Custodian
About The Position
Under close supervision, the Custodian performs general custodial duties, including cleaning, dusting, sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming. The role uses appropriate materials and methods to keep areas clean and free of safety hazards. The position has no direct reports. Work is performed in an office or at a customer location, which may include a commissary, federal courthouse, or military base. Employees may encounter cleaning chemicals, equipment noise, and hot or cold conditions indoors or outdoors. A valid driver’s license may be required depending on local, state, or contract requirements.
Requirements
- Ability to use a wide array of custodial and general cleaning chemicals.
- Ability to safely operate custodial equipment, including vacuums, backpack vacuums, and a cardboard bailer.
- Ability to communicate effectively and follow instructions.
- Computer literacy to use business software and the Internet, and to enter and retrieve data.
- Human relations skills to build effective working relationships.
- Ability to perform the listed physical demands for extended periods, with or without assistance.
- A valid driver’s license may be required depending on local, state, or contract requirements.
Responsibilities
- Clean, dust, and wipe furniture.
- Sweep, mop, or vacuum floors.
- Empty and clean wastebaskets, trash containers, and cigarette urns.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms using established practices and procedures.
- Refill restroom dispensers.
- Assist with setup for meetings, classrooms, conferences, and events.
- Follow instructions for using chemicals and supplies, and use them as directed.
- Wash accessible interior and exterior windows and clean blinds.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
