Custodian
About The Position
Under close supervision, the Custodian performs general custodial duties, including cleaning, dusting, sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming. The position uses appropriate materials and methods to keep areas clean and free of safety hazards. Work is performed in an office environment or at a customer location, which may include a commissary, federal courthouse, or military base. Employees may be exposed to toxic chemicals, equipment noise, and cold or heat depending on indoor and outdoor conditions. The role has no direct reports. A valid driver license may be required depending on local, state, or contract requirements.
Requirements
- Ability to use a wide array of custodial and general cleaning chemicals.
- Ability to safely operate custodial equipment, including a vacuum, backpack vacuum, and cardboard bailer.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to follow instructions.
- Computer literacy to use business software and the Internet, and to enter and retrieve data.
- Human relations skills to build effective working relationships.
Responsibilities
- Clean, dust, and wipe furniture.
- Sweep, mop, or vacuum floors.
- Empty and clean wastebaskets, trash containers, and cigarette urns.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms and refill restroom dispensers using established practices and procedures.
- Assist with setup for meetings, classrooms, conferences, and events.
- Follow instructions for using chemicals and supplies, and use them as directed.
- Wash accessible interior and exterior windows and clean blinds.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
