About The Position

Under immediate supervision and direction, the Custodian performs custodial work to support the general maintenance of university buildings and related duties. Work is performed predominantly indoors, with some outdoor work, and may involve exposure to hazardous conditions, fumes, odors, toxic situations, and bloodborne pathogens. The role requires frequently or constantly exerting up to 50 pounds of force to move objects. A pre-employment background check is required.

Requirements

• No previous work experience is necessary.
• Must possess a valid driver's license.
• Ability to follow oral and written directions.
• Ability to observe and use safe working conditions.
• Ability to use and care for janitorial supplies, chemicals, and equipment.
• Ability to use a 6-foot ladder.
• Ability to regularly lift and carry equipment and furniture.
• Ability to operate a buffer, small tools, and other equipment related to custodial duties.
• Must pass a pre-employment background check.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Prior work experience.

Responsibilities

• Clean building interiors and floor areas by vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and buffing.
• Clean bathrooms and replenish supplies.
• Collect trash from receptacles and empty it in designated areas.
• Lock and unlock doors as required.
• Clean building porches, entrances, and windows.
• Clean, store, and perform routine preventive maintenance on equipment.
• Serve as on-call personnel to assist with emergency cleanup.
• Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
