About The Position

The Custodian is responsible for cleanliness and sanitation in assigned areas. The role performs janitorial duties and scheduled upkeep, including hazardous-waste handling tasks, and uses motorized cleaning equipment. The Custodian follows safety rules, company procedures, and reporting protocols; uses appropriate personal protective equipment; and works professionally with colleagues, supervisors, and customers. Driving to various work locations, customer sites, or company facilities may be necessary. The position has no supervisory responsibilities. No specific education is required. Three to six months of training or experience is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A valid driver’s license may be required based on business needs, and employees who drive must meet company driving eligibility requirements. Completion of safety and task training certification is required; forklift certification may also be required.

Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment, and willingness to share that knowledge with the team.
Knowledge of cleaning compounds and chemicals and their safe, efficient use.
Ability to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
Ability to drive to various work locations, customer sites, or company facilities may be necessary.

Responsibilities

Perform janitorial duties and all tasks listed on the daily schedule.
Perform hazardous-waste responsibilities, including collecting, classifying, sorting, storing, shipping and receiving, labeling, cleaning, recycling, and packaging special and hazardous waste.
Operate motorized cleaning equipment and maintain its upkeep and care.
Maintain the daily cleanliness and upkeep of the assigned area and keep the work area clean.
Report incidents and hazardous conditions to a supervisor.
Follow safety rules, policies, procedures, protocols, and company requirements; stop at-risk behavior by oneself or others.
Use appropriate personal protective equipment.
Perform work assignments with other employees, repetitive tasks, and other assigned duties.
Take direction and respond to supervision; communicate professionally with leads, supervisors, coworkers, managers, and customers.
Fill in during staff shortages and support the shift lead in completing punch-list items.
Maintain a professional appearance and conduct, and understand customer service and satisfaction.
Understand reporting systems and the work environment.
