About The Position

The Custodian maintains clean, safe, and sanitary conditions in and around the Erb Memorial Union (EMU). Duties include restroom sanitation; floor and window care; cleaning the building, dining areas, and surrounding grounds; emptying garbage and recycling; assisting with general facility maintenance; and providing excellent customer service to EMU staff and visitors. The position works Sunday through Thursday, 8:00 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., and reports to the Custodial Services Manager. The Custodian demonstrates effective and respectful communication with staff, management, building users, and other campus departments, and helps create a respectful workplace. This is an essential-personnel position: the employee is expected to make every reasonable effort to arrive for regularly scheduled work during or after a disaster or natural event unless otherwise notified by their supervisor, and must keep reliable, current contact information available. The role is part of the Erb Memorial Union, a department of the University of Oregon’s Division of Student Life. The EMU serves students, faculty, staff, community members, and visitors, and provides learning and personal-growth opportunities in an open, inclusive community.

Requirements

One year of custodial experience.
Basic knowledge of commercial cleaning equipment and chemicals.

Ability to work in conditions that may include freezers, coolers, basement spaces, noisy or dimly lit areas, inclement weather, and cleanup of bodily fluids.
Successful completion of a background check is required for employment.

Nice To Haves

Experience with commercial cleaning equipment and industrial chemicals.
