Custodian
About The Position
The Custodian is responsible for the cleanliness and sanitation of all areas assigned. This role involves performing janitorial duties, operating motorized cleaning equipment, and maintaining the daily upkeep of assigned areas. The Custodian will also be responsible for Hazardous Waste responsibilities, including collecting, classifying, sorting, storing, shipping and receiving, labeling, cleaning, recycling, and packaging of special and hazardous waste. Compliance with safety rules, policies, and procedures is essential, as is the ability to report incidents and hazardous conditions to a supervisor. The position requires performing work assignments in a team, handling repetitive tasks, maintaining a clean work area, and following all protocols and company procedures. Additionally, the Custodian must be able to take direction, respond to supervision, communicate professionally with colleagues and customers, and fill in during staff shortages. Supporting the shift lead in completing punch-list items, using proper personal protective equipment, and presenting a professional appearance and conduct are also key aspects of the role. Understanding customer service and satisfaction, as well as reporting systems and the environment, is expected.
Requirements
- No specific education requirement, 3-6 months training or experience preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A valid driver's license may be required for this position based on business needs.
- Employees required to drive as part of their job duties must maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and meet company driving eligibility requirements.
- Completed all safety and task training certification.
- May be required to be forklift certified.
- Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment and willing to share with team
- Knowledge of the upkeep and care of the cleaning equipment
- Knowledge of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
