About The Position

Perform a variety of custodial duties to maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of assigned rooms, buildings, and related facilities. Cleaning duties are performed outside regular office hours, on evenings after 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The work is primarily indoors, with occasional travel from site to site, and may involve exposure to dust, grease, odors, and cleaning agents. Work hours include shift work to minimize disruption of daily operational activities.

Requirements

• Ability to pass a drug screening and State of Alaska background check.
• Current valid driver’s license.
• Qualify for SFA’s commercial automobile insurance.
• Knowledge of methods for cleaning and preserving floors, walls, and fixtures.
• Knowledge of cleaning materials and disinfectants.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
• Knowledge of operating common janitorial equipment, motorized vehicles, and power equipment.
• Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision.
• Great written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to build good rapport with people contacted in the course of work.
• Ability to walk and stand for prolonged periods; stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, reach, and twist; regularly push, pull, lift, and/or carry light to moderately heavy objects; and occasionally handle objects over 45 pounds.

Nice To Haves

• Diploma or GED.
• Custodial experience.

Responsibilities

• Clean and care for assigned areas and equipment.
