About The Position

The Custodian supports Facilities Management by maintaining the cleanliness of classrooms, residence halls, administrative buildings, and other assigned facilities at Mount Holyoke College. Work is performed in an institutional and residential setting and should be planned to minimize disruption while preserving the campus’s historic appearance. This is a 20-hour-per-week position, scheduled Tuesday through Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., for 52 weeks per year. The position is in person and includes a starting rate of $20.94 per hour, with pay commensurate with experience; the hiring range is $20.94–$23.33 per hour. The stated start date is September 28, 2026.

Requirements

High school education or equivalent.
Adhere to a detailed cleaning program.
Be willing to work some weekends and holidays.
Be flexible for on-call assignments and snow-shoveling duties.
Lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
Be able to perform manual tasks, climb stairs and ladders, and stoop or stand for prolonged periods.
Perform physical activities including balancing, carrying, pushing and pulling, grasping, repetitive movement, standing, bending, reaching, sitting, and twisting.

Responsibilities

Perform general cleaning tasks in campus buildings.
Sweep, vacuum, and wash floors.
Empty waste receptacles.
Clean and disinfect restroom toilets, sinks, countertops, mirrors, showers, and high-touch surfaces.
Dust and polish furniture and fixtures.
Communicate building and safety concerns and report needed repairs or services.
Perform assigned snow removal.
Carry out additional duties as assigned.
