About The Position

Under general supervision, the Custodian maintains the cleanliness and security of County buildings. Incumbents perform basic building cleaning. The recruitment list may be used for a limited period to fill regular full-time and part-time open or promotional positions at locations throughout the County. The current vacancy is in Ukiah, California. Employees regularly assigned to the coastal region or Covelo may receive a 5% assignment premium under current bargaining unit agreements. Bilingual English/Spanish applicants are encouraged to apply.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• No prior experience or training is required; alternatively, a combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Valid California Driver's License.
• Knowledge of cleaning techniques, equipment, cleaning chemicals, and compounds and their proper uses.
• Skill in maintaining building cleanliness and operating assigned equipment.
• Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos; interpret safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; and carry out oral and written instructions with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Regularly walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, or bend; speak and hear; and lift or move up to 25 pounds.
• Occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Collect trash inside and outside buildings and dispose of trash and recyclables.
• Clean restrooms; sweep and mop floors; change dispensers; and disinfect areas.
• Vacuum carpets and sweep and mop floors.
• Strip and wax floors and shampoo carpets.
• Dust surfaces and clean windows.
• Maintain building security and monitor alarm system controls.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
