About The Position

The Custodian maintains clean, safe, and sanitary conditions in and around the Erb Memorial Union (EMU). Duties include restroom sanitation; floor and window care; cleaning the building, dining areas, and surrounding grounds; emptying garbage and recycling; assisting with general facility maintenance; and providing excellent customer service to EMU staff and visitors. The regular, ongoing position is scheduled Sunday through Thursday, 8:00 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. The Custodian communicates respectfully with staff, management, building users, and other campus departments and helps foster a respectful workplace. The position reports to the Custodial Services Manager. This is an essential-personnel position. The employee is expected to make every reasonable effort to arrive on campus at scheduled times during or after a disaster or natural event unless otherwise directed by a supervisor, and must keep contact information current. Employment offers are contingent on successful completion of a background check. The position is classified and represented by SEIU Local 503, Oregon Public Employees Union.

Requirements

One year of custodial experience.
Basic knowledge of commercial cleaning equipment and chemicals.

Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including overhead work on ladders; potentially lifting more than 50 pounds; climbing stairs; bending, stretching, reaching, squatting, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying; extensive walking on hard smooth finishes and uneven surfaces; and prolonged exertion.
Ability to work in freezers, coolers, basement spaces, noisy areas, inclement weather, and dimly lit spaces, and to clean up bodily fluids.

Nice To Haves
