About The Position

The Custodian performs general cleaning and upkeep of the store, restrooms, break rooms, sales floor, back room, and surrounding grounds. The associate helps maintain a clean and safe environment, keeps cleaning equipment in good repair, and may operate motor-driven cleaning equipment if over 18 and trained. The role may also involve assisting with or making cardboard bales and clearing snow or ice from sidewalks and the porch.

The Custodian reports repair or maintenance needs and unsafe conditions to store management, and alerts the front-end manager when supplies are needed. The associate supports department managers in meeting sanitation requirements and cooperates with coworkers and supervisors to support the smooth operation of the department and store. This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements

• Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
• No prior experience required.

Nice To Haves

• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Sweep, wash, mop, and perform general cleanup.
• Clean restrooms and break rooms, replenish supplies, dispose of wastepaper, and keep the building and surrounding grounds orderly.
• Operate motor-driven store cleaning equipment when over 18 years of age and trained, and maintain cleaning equipment in good repair.
• Assist with or make cardboard bales, as needed.
• Maintain the sales floor and help keep it free of slip and trip hazards.
• Clear snow and ice from sidewalks and the porch, as needed.
• Dispose of trash and other debris in the back room, break room, front end, and parking lot.
• Notify store management of repair or maintenance needs and unsafe conditions requiring attention beyond the associate's role.
• Inform the front-end manager when additional supplies are needed.
• Assist department managers in meeting sanitation requirements, including proper maintenance and sanitation of sink traps.
• Cooperate with coworkers and superiors to support smooth department and store operations, and continuously improve job performance.
• Perform other duties as required by the store manager.
