About The Position

The Custodian cleans and sanitizes the fitness club, including restrooms, locker rooms, shower rooms, waste areas, windows, walls, floors, fixtures, and other surfaces. The role uses custodial equipment and follows cleaning lists and other assigned tasks. It may also assist with front desk operations, including use of the Point of Sale, and requires communication with members and a high level of member service. The Custodian keeps storage rooms clean and organized, arranges products on shelving, discards loose boxes and trash, and notifies club management when cleaning supplies need replenishment. This position reports to the General Manager (GM) or Assistant Manager (AM) and has no supervisory responsibilities. It operates in a fitness club environment, where noise may regularly be loud and work includes lavatory areas. Scheduled hours are set according to business needs during normal club operating hours. Work may occur outside a regularly scheduled shift, including mornings, evenings, weekends, or overnight, and hours may change based on business needs. The role may be full-time or part-time, depending on business need, and is nonexempt. No travel is expected.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Excellent attendance and punctuality skills.
Great communication skills with internal and external customers.
Team-oriented, motivated, and well organized.
Ability to think critically and proactively evaluate solutions to problems.
Ability to frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move objects up to 75 pounds.
Ability to work mornings, evenings, weekends, or overnight as required by business needs.

Nice To Haves

Custodial experience is preferred.
Knowledge of and ability to operate a floor scrubber and vacuum cleaner.

Responsibilities

Thoroughly clean and sanitize restrooms, locker rooms, shower rooms, stall walls and doors, and waste areas.
Inspect and clean interior and exterior windows and window frames.
Detail clean baseboards, wall trim, walls, handrails, air vents, TVs, signage, storage or glass doors, and light fixtures; ensure surfaces are free of handprints, scuff marks, and dust.
Clean rubber and tile flooring throughout the gym, auxiliary rooms, and areas under gym equipment using a vacuum, floor scrubber, and mop.
Follow cleaning lists and complete other assigned tasks.
Remove trash from waste areas or push it down.
Assist with front desk operations as needed, including Point of Sale use.
Communicate with members and provide a high level of member service.
Keep storage rooms clean and organized and products properly arranged on shelving racks.
Discard loose boxes and trash.
Notify club management when cleaning supplies are low and need replenishment.
