About The Position

Fairview is seeking a Casual Custodian to join the Environmental Services team at Fairview University Riverside Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This is a casual, as-needed position offering flexibility to pick up shifts based on departmental needs and availability. Available shift start times are 6:00 AM, 7:00 AM, 3:00 PM, 4:00 PM, 5:00 PM, and 10:30 PM. The role supports daily cleaning and sanitation throughout the hospital to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and staff. The position is represented by AFSCME Local 1164.

The custodian performs cleaning duties as assigned to keep the facility orderly, attractive, clean, and sanitary.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or GED.
• Previous housekeeping or environmental services experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform cleaning assignments according to department procedures and protocols.
• Use proper chemical dilution ratios and follow infection control practices and procedures.
• Follow the proper procedures for the assigned area and complete assignments in a timely manner.
• Use appropriate equipment and supplies for each task and replenish supplies.
• Properly handle soiled and clean linens in assigned areas.
• Properly handle and dispose of biohazardous and non-biohazardous waste.
• Use good body mechanics and safe work practices, including floor signs, gloves, and hazard signs or symbols.
• Remain flexible to changes in assignments as needed and contribute process improvement ideas or suggestions.
• Properly document work assignments.
• Demonstrate appropriate emergency and security responses, take immediate action as required to assist with emergency codes, and unlock or secure building access as directed.
• Clean emergency spills as needed.
• Demonstrate proper use and care of equipment, take action for preventive maintenance, report malfunctioning equipment, and use safety precautions.
• Use appropriate verbal and nonverbal greetings and demonstrate a willing, helpful attitude.
• Respect customers' need for privacy and perform activities respectfully, courteously, and responsively.
• Transport furniture and equipment as requested.
• Report mechanical failures or negative conditions to the appropriate supervisor.
