About The Position

The Custodian works at Palm Springs International Airport and performs custodial and building maintenance duties related to cleaning and maintaining assigned departments and facilities. The role also assists Maintenance Technicians as required and performs other related work as assigned. The position requires one year of janitorial, custodial, sanitation, hospitality, and/or grounds maintenance experience, a high school diploma or equivalent, and possession of—or the ability to obtain and maintain—a valid California driver license with a satisfactory driving record. The employee must also possess or be able to obtain an Airport Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge approved through the Federal Transportation Security Administration (TSA). Employees are enrolled in the California DMV Pull Notice Program and must successfully complete the required pre-employment or placement background investigation, physical, and drug screen. The employee must be willing and able to work various hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Work may take place in field, shop, or aviation environments and involve travel between sites, exposure to noise, dust, grease, fumes, motorized equipment, inclement weather, slippery or uneven surfaces, and potentially dangerous or emergency situations. The position involves prolonged sitting, walking, or standing; moderate lifting, carrying, pulling, pushing, kneeling, bending, and climbing; operating motorized equipment and vehicles; lifting and moving up to 25 pounds; communicating in person; and driving for extended periods. Requirements

One year of janitorial, custodial, sanitation, hospitality, and/or grounds maintenance experience.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Possess or be able to obtain and maintain a valid California driver license with a satisfactory driving record.
Possess or be able to obtain upon appointment an Airport Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge approved through the Federal Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
Be willing and able to work various hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Successfully complete, or have completed, the required pre-employment or placement background investigation, physical, and drug screen.
Be enrolled in the California Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) Pull Notice Program.

Responsibilities

Perform routine and general cleaning and maintenance activities on equipment and facilities.
Sweep, vacuum, mop, wax, strip, and polish floors; vacuum and shampoo carpets.
Clear and clean gutters, curbs, culverts, and catch basins; perform grounds cleanup and outdoor cleaning.
Perform minor maintenance and repair tasks as necessary.
Empty and clean wastebaskets and other receptacles and pick up and empty trash on facility grounds.
Maintain accurate records, files, and logs.
Operate and maintain equipment, materials, and supplies used to perform assigned duties.
Perform maintenance and repair on a variety of equipment and systems.
Perform minor building maintenance.
Clean, polish, and sanitize building surfaces, including walls, stairs, and floors; dust and polish furniture and fixtures.
Clean and maintain facility restrooms, including mirrors, fixtures, floors, walls, and toiletry supplies.
Prepare rooms and arrange furniture for meetings and special events.
Observe and report the need for repairs and make minor repairs when possible.
Observe and implement safe work practices and procedures.
Assist Maintenance Technicians as required.
Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
